  • Page 3 3M™ Crimplok™+ SC Connector for 1.6 – 3 mm cable Required tools, available in the 3M™ Crimplok™+ SC/UPC Kit 8765-UPC for the 8700-UPC, 8702- UPC, 6700, and 6702 connectors and the 3M™ Crimplok™+ SC/APC Kit 8765-SC/APC for the 8700- APC and 8702-APC connector.
  • Page 4 On the 3M™ Protrusion Setting Tool, move the actuator lever to the unactivated position as shown. Clean the tip of the protrusion setting jig using a lint-free cleaning swab with a drop of alcohol or cleaning fluid. Reach through the window with the swab and move the swab tip vertically to clean the jig tip.
  • Page 5 Remove the 3M™ Crimplok™+ Connector from the bag and remove the dust cap from the ferrule. Remove the lapping film disc from the bag and set it aside for later. Insert the connector into the SC port on the protrusion setting tool with the actuation cap facing upward.
  • Page 6 Group the aramid yarn together. Run your fingers over the yarn at least twice . Place the cable into the cable holder, with fiber curl downward. Place 3 mm cable straight down the center track. Place 1.6–2 mm cable in an s-bend, using the far-side track on the cable holder. Align the beginning of the cable slit with the 2 posts at the beginning of the cable track.
  • Page 7 Cut the excess jacket at the white lines marked on the cable holder. white lines Slide both shuttles backward. Ensure the fiber curl is directed downward in the fiber holder. If not, re-arrange the cable with curl downward per step 2.
  • Page 8 Open the cover(s) on the cleaver. Once per day, or whenever the cleaver gets dirty, clean the fiber groove and rubber pad(s) with a cleaning swab. Do not touch the diamond wire on the 3M™ Easy Cleaver. Insert the cable holder into the cleaver.
  • Page 9 3.15 Remove the cable holder from the cleaver. Slide the front shuttle all the way forward. 4.0 Fiber Insertion and Connector Activation Grip the back of the cable holder. Slowly insert the cable holder (with cleaved fiber) into the guide track on the protrusion setting tool until it reaches a stop.

  • Page 11 CRITICAL STEP: Activate the buffer strain relief within the connector using the shuttle on the fiber holder. While holding the tool in place, press the left release lever on the side of the protrusion setting tool base and push on the shuttle (toward the connector) until it reaches its travel limit.
  • Page 12 4.11 Remove the connector from the port on the protrusion setting tool. Use care to protect the ferrule and fiber tip from damage. 4.12 Arrange the 2 slit jacket strands on the sides of the connector. Route the aramid yarn on the side opposite of the actuation cap.

  • Page 14 Remove the connector from the port on the finisher lid. Note: The 3M™ Nano Finishing Tool is best stored dry – inside and out. Open the lid as shown in step 5.1, and allow to dry. Remove the lapping film. Inspect the lapping film for fiber tracks. If the film has tracks, dispose of it. If not, restart at step 5.1.
  • Page 15 Before the network has a laser light source feeding your connector, inspect the fiber end face with 3M™ 200X View Scope 6365-VS if you have one. If the fiber end face looks acceptable per photos to the right, then protect it with a dust cap, or insert into its adapter.

    6.0 Connector Reusability Should it become necessary to separate the connector and cable, e.g. to reset the fiber protrusion, unscrew the boot from the back of the connector. Insert one side of tweezers between the black, cylindrical sleeve and the connector body to pry the sleeve backward, sliding it toward the cable.
