Vapor lock prevention and remedying
Use only Shimano genuine mineral oil or a
proper equivalent. If any other type of oil
is used, it may not only cause vapor lock,
but may also damage the brake system.
Be careful not to let any water or air
bubbles get into the brake system,
otherwise vapor lock may occur. Be
particularly careful when removing the
cover of the reservoir tank.
burn-in
period
If vapor lock occurs, stop riding the
bicycle immediately.
The cause of vapor lock is usually water
mixed in with the oil, so replace the oil with
Shimano genuine mineral oil.

Disc Brake
Disc brakes have a burn-in period during which the rotors are rubbed
by the pads, and the braking force will gradually increase as the burn-in
period progresses. Make sure that you are aware of any such increases
in braking force when using the brakes during the burn-in period. The
same thing will happen when the brake pads or rotor are replaced.

Be sure to use only oil from a freshly-
opened container. This is because the oil
may absorb moisture from the air after the
container is opened.
Vapor lock may occur if the brakes are
applied continuously. To relieve
this condition,
momentarily
release the lever.
