Copies of the TÜV certificate and the corresponding report are available from SEW-EURODRIVE on request. Safe condition ® For safety-related operation of MOVIAXIS MMD60B , safe torque off is defined as safe condition (see STO safety function).
  • Page 7: Safety Concept

Integrated Safety Technology Safety concept Safety concept ® • The MOVIAXIS MMD60B frequency inverter can be connected to an external safety controller or safety relay. This de-energizes all active elements that generate the pulse trains to the power output stage (IGBT) by switching off the safety-related 24 V supply when a connected control device (e.g.
  • Page 8: Safety Functions

Integrated Safety Technology Safety functions Safety functions The following drive-related safety functions can be used: • STO (safe torque off according to IEC 61800-5-2) by disconnecting the safety- related 24 V supply. If the STO function is activated, the frequency inverter no longer supplies power to the motor for generating torque.
  • Page 9 Integrated Safety Technology Safety functions • SS1(c) (safe stop 1, function variant c according to IEC 61800-5-2) by means of suit- able external control (e.g. safety relay with delayed disconnection) The following sequence is mandatory: – Deceleration of the drive using an appropriate brake ramp specified via setpoints –...
  • Page 10: Restrictions

Integrated Safety Technology Restrictions Restrictions WARNING The safety concept is only suitable for performing mechanical work on the system/ machine components. When the 24 V power supply is disconnected, the line voltage is still present at the frequency inverter DC link. Severe or fatal injuries from electric shock.

Safety Conditions Approved device combinations Safety Conditions ® The requirement for safe operation is that the safety functions of MOVIAXIS MMD60B are properly integrated into an application-specific higher-level safety function. A system/machine-specific risk assessment must be carried out through the system/ machine manufacturer and taken into account for the use of the drive system with ®...
  • Page 12: Requirements On The Installation

Safety Conditions Requirements on the installation Requirements on the installation • Supply system cables and the safety-related control cables must be routed sepa- rately, unless you are using genuine SEW hybrid cables. ® • The length of the cable from the safety control system to MOVIAXIS MMD60B must not exceed 100 m.
  • Page 13: Requirements On The External Safety Controller

Safety Conditions Requirements on the external safety controller Requirements on the external safety controller A safety relay can be used as an alternative to a safety controller. The following require- ments apply analogously. • The safety controller and all other safety-related subsystems must be approved for at least that safety class which is required in the overall system for the respective, application-related safety function.
  • Page 14 Safety Conditions Requirements on the external safety controller 3.3.1 Sample circuit "safety relay" The following figure shows the basic interface of an external safety relay (according to ® the before mentioned requirements) to MOVIAXIS MMD60B. The information in the respective manufacturer's data sheets must be observed for connection.

Safety Conditions Requirements on startup Requirements on startup • To validate the implemented safety functions, they must be documented and checked after successful startup (validation). Observe the limitations for safety functions in chapter "Limitations" for the validation of the safety functions. Non-safety-relevant parts and components that affect the result of the validation test must be deactivated, if necessary.
