2 Safety Precautions
The cut-off machine must not be used in the
vicinity of flammable substances and combusti‐
ble gases.
Do not cut into pipes, metal tanks or other con‐
tainers unless you are absolutely sure that they
do not contain any volatile or flammable substan‐
ces.
Before placing the cut-off machine on the ground
and leaving the cut-off machine unattended:
– Switch off the machine
– Set locking lever to ƒ
– Wait until the abrasive cutting wheel has come
to a standstill or brake the abrasive cutting
wheel until it comes to a standstill by carefully
touching a hard surface (e.g., concrete slab)
– Remove the battery. If the battery is removed
whilst the abrasive cutting wheel is running,
this extends the coasting effect – risk of injury!
Frequently inspect the abrasive cut‐
ting wheel – replace it right away if
there are visible cracks, buckling or
other damage (for example, overheat‐
ing) – risk of accident due to break‐
age!
In the event of changes in cutting behavior (e.g.,
increased vibration, reduced cutting perform‐
ance), stop work and eliminate the causes of the
changes.
An abrasive cutting wheel can become hot dur‐
ing dry cutting. Never touch the stationary abra‐
sive cutting wheel – risk of burns!
2.13
After finishing work
Turn off machine, set the locking lever to ƒ and
remove the battery from the cut-off machine.
NOTICE
If the battery is not removed, there is the risk that
the plug-in contacts on the cut-off machine and
battery become corroded. Such corrosion can
cause irreparable damage to the cut-off machine
and battery.
Allow the cut-off machine or battery to dry out
separately if they are wet after use.
2.14
Storage
When the cut-off machine is not in use it should
be parked in such a way that no-one is endan‐
gered. Ensure that the cut-off machine cannot be
used without authorization.
0458-707-9821-C
The cut-off machine must be stored in a dry
room with the locking lever set to ƒ and only
with the battery removed.
NOTICE
If the battery is not removed, there is the risk that
the plug-in contacts on the cut-off machine and
battery become corroded. Such corrosion can
cause irreparable damage to the cut-off machine
and battery.
Allow the cut-off machine or battery to dry out
separately if they are wet after use.
2.15
Vibrations
Prolonged use of the power tool may result in
vibration-induced circulation problems in the
hands (whitefinger disease).
No general recommendation can be given for the
length of usage because it depends on several
factors.
The period of usage is prolonged by:
– Hand protection (wearing warm gloves)
– Work breaks
The period of usage is shortened by:
– Any personal tendency to suffer from poor cir‐
culation (symptoms: frequently cold fingers,
tingling sensations).
– Low outside temperatures.
– The force with which the handles are held (a
tight grip restricts circulation).
Continual and regular users should monitor
closely the condition of their hands and fingers. If
any of the above symptoms appear (e.g. tingling
sensation in fingers), seek medical advice.
2.16
Maintenance and repairs
Before all repair and maintenance work, always
switch off the machine, set the locking lever to ƒ
and remove the battery from the cut-off machine.
If the abrasive wheel starts inadvertently – risk of
injury!
The cut-off machine must be serviced regularly.
Do not attempt any maintenance or repair work
not described in the Instruction Manual. All other
work should be carried out by a servicing dealer.
STIHL recommends that maintenance and repair
work be carried out only by authorized STIHL
dealers. STIHL dealers receive regular training
and are supplied with technical information.
