The red indicator on the charger module will light to show that charging is taking place.
If the indicator does not light, check that -
1.
The charger plug is fully inserted in the rear-panel socket
2.
The charger module is correctly plugged into the mains socket
3.
The mains supply is switched on
4.
The ZERO knob is fully on the OFF position
5.
The fuse in the charger module (UK model) is intact.
Leave the unit overnight (or for 14-16 hours) to recharge the batteries fully. It is safe to
leave the batteries on charge for a longer period.
When the batteries have been charged, switch off the mains, unplug the charger and
return the unit to its case before using it.
A fully-charged battery will give about 14 hours of operation, and at least 13 hours even
with the audio signal sounding.
The electronics are stabilised against variation in battery voltage; however, when making
cover measurements using newly-charged batteries, care should be taken with
measurements over 80mm, as they may be affected by high battery voltages and/or
imprecise zero-setting, during approximately the first hour after switch-on. Measurements
at shallower depths and the metal-location function are not affected.

1.5 Safety

Do not attempt to open the case of the CM52 CoverMaster – there are no user-
serviceable or user-adjustable components inside.
Protovale or your national agent for a prompt repair.
Battery powered
The CM52 CoverMaster is powered by a low-voltage rechargeable battery (8.4V nominal,
10V maximum), but is not certified 'intrinsically safe' for use in explosive atmospheres. AC
power is indirectly connected only for battery charging.
AC power connection
The CM52 CoverMaster is never connected directly to AC mains, and so no high voltages
are ever present within the unit. The charger module supplied is double-insulated to
provide total isolation from the AC mains while charging is in progress.
Battery charger
The charger circuit limits the charging current to a rate which the nickel-cadmium cells can
withstand indefinitely.
Fuses
The CM52 CoverMaster is never connected directly to AC mains, and so does not require
any internal fuses.
