Protection against water and dust
In its leather case, the CM52 CoverMaster can be operated in rainy conditions and is
protected against water and dust ingress to IP54 standard. Immersion in water may
damage the instrument, but does not create a hazard to the operator.
Electromagnetic radiation
The CM52 CoverMaster has been tested according to the relevant and applicable
sections of IEC801-2, EN55011 and BSEN55022-A&B, and meets the European Electro-
Magnetic Compatibility directive 89/336/EEC as amended by EC directive 92/32/EEC,
and therefore carries the CE mark according to directive 93/68/EEC.
However the
instrument is not warranted safe for other purposes (eg for use in explosive atmospheres
or in the presence of explosive materials).

1.6 Connecting headphones

Headphone and DataLogger Sockets
A socket for optional headphones is fitted as
standard. The 3.5mm stereo jack socket is
mounted on the left-hand side of the case (of
the two sockets, it is the one nearer to the
front panel).
Any of the many widely-used headphone sets
may be used, so the choice is up to the user.
It is worth mentioning that the full-sized
padded style of headphones may also double
as ear defenders (though not necessarily to
BS6344:1 or DIN45611); whereas the more
skeleton
style
of
"personal
stereo"
headphones will easily fit under a "hard hat"
safety helmet.

1.7 Compatibility with the CM5

The electronics and standard and midget heads are fully interchangeable between the
CM5 and the CM52.
However the CM52 uses a different head lead (with a 3-pin
connector at the electronics end) in order to automatically sense which head has been
connected; and uses an external rather than internal charger.
