FIG. 3
FIG. 3: A rotary header is used to cut the crop, condition
the crop, and put the crop into a swath or windrow. A
rotary header permits increased windrowing speed and
crop capacity.
The header height is adjusted with the header angle
cylinder connected to the center link (1). The header skid
shoes (2), or optional gauge rollers also help control
header height and flotation.
As the machine passes over the crop, the curtains are
moved upward and the cutterbed (3) contacts the crop.
The knives on the rotating discs (4) cut and feed the crop
directly into the hay conditioner. The augers (5) prevent
crop from hesitating on the rear wall and also help feed
the crop into the hay conditioner rolls.
The helper roll (6) reduces turbulence for smooth crop
flow into the hay conditioner. The hay conditioner rolls (7)
condition the crop for fast drying. The hay conditioner rolls
also increase the speed of the crop.
The swathboard (8) or forming shields (9) determine the
crop position on the ground for drying and pickup
operations.
