Planning for installation

Contents of this chapter

This chapter gives instructions and references to instructions in other manuals for
planning the safety system installation, as well as the requirements for installation in
the applicable safety standards.

Requirements for designers and installers

• Designers and installers must be trained to understand the requirements and
principles of designing and installing safety-related systems.
• Designers and maintainers must be trained to understand the causes and
consequences of Common Cause Failures (CCF). See the checklist for the
appropriate standard in section

Mechanical installation

Installation site

The subsystem elements must always be likely to operate within the range of
temperature, humidity, corrosion, dust, vibration, etc. for which they are specified,
without the use of external environmental control (see section
page 518).
The FSO and FSE modules must only be used in an environment where no
conductive dust or contaminants are present. One way to ensure proper protection
against contamination is to use the FSO and FSE modules in at least an IP54
enclosure. For further information on environmental limits, see chapter Planning the
mechanical installation in the drive hardware manual.
