If the vehicle is in a dangerous location it may
be towed from the danger zone with both
axles on the ground. In this case, the towing
distance may not be greater than 50 m and
the towing speed must not exceed 10 km/h.
For longer distances, have the vehicle loaded
and transported.
Fitting/removing the towing eye
Fitting the towing eye
The mountings for the removable towing eyes
are located in the bumpers. They are at the
front and at the rear under covers :.
Vehicles with a trailer tow hitch do not have a
bracket at the back for the screw-in towing
eye. Connect the towbar to the trailer tow
hitch (
page 303).

Take the towing eye out of the stowage well

on the left, under the luggage compartment
floor (
page 432).
Y
Press the mark on cover : inwards and
X
remove.
Screw in the towing eye clockwise as far as
X
it will go and tighten it.

Loosen the towing eye and unscrew it.

Attach cover : to the bumper and press
X
until it engages.
Put the towing eye back into the vehicle
X
tool kit.
Towing the vehicle with both axles on
the ground
The automatic transmission automatically
shifts to position P when you open the driver's
or front-passenger door or when you remove
the key from the ignition lock. In order to
ensure that the automatic transmission stays
in position N when towing away the vehicle,
you must observe the following points:
Make sure that the vehicle is stationary.

Turn the key to position 2 in the ignition
X
lock.
Depress the brake pedal and keep it
X
depressed.
Shift the automatic transmission to posi-
X
tion N.
Leave the key in position 2 in the ignition
X
lock.
Release the brake pedal.
X
Release the electric parking brake.
X
Switch on the hazard warning lamps
X

page 141).

In order to signal a change of direction when
towing the vehicle with the hazard warning
lamps switched on, use the combination
switch as usual. In this case, only the turn
signals for the desired direction flash. When
you reset the combination switch, the hazard
warning lamps start flashing again.
