A d ju s tm e n t o f valve s p la y
R em ove seat, spoilers, fuel tank, coolers and expa nsion tank as show n at
chapter G ene ral O perations .
D rain the engine oil as indicated on page D . 5 then, w ith C O L D E N G IN E ,
operate as follo w s:
- R em ove the sp ark plug and insert a dial gauge into its seating;
- R em ove the L .H . crankcase half cover (A ) and p osition the tool (B ) code
800090875 as show n in the figure;
- B ring the piston to the top de ad center (T D C ), w ith the T notch o n the roto r
coincident w ith th e notch on the to ol; set the dial gauge to zero on th is
position;
- R em ove the a djusting screw cap s and checks the valve play using a
gauge. T h e pla y m ust be 0.002 in. both for th e inta ke and the e xhau st;
- lf the above pla y is not m et, loosen the counter-n uts (1) and act as required
other scre w s (2 ) until the required pla y is obtained;
- T orque again th e counter-n uts (1 ) and install all parts previously re m oved.

C om pression should be checked as follow s:
- R em ove the sp ark plug and fit a pressure gaug e in its place;
- T urn com pletely the th rottle tw ist-grip;
- T urn the engine over b y using th e electric starter sw itch and take a reading
on the pressure gauges. T he p re ssure reading sh ould not be lo w er than: 8
bar (11 3 P S I).
