Troubleshooting I/O module problems

Use this information to resolve problems with an I/O module.
If the I/O module has been functional in the BladeCenter S chassis, the first step is
to determine if anything has changed. For example, verify that the configuration
has not been updated or new components added to the BladeCenter S chassis.
IBM continually updates the support Web site with tips and techniques that you
can use to resolve any problems that you may be having with the BladeCenter S
system. Go to the BladeCenter support search Web site at http://www.ibm.com/
systems/support/supportsite.wss/search?brandind=5000020 to see if any service
bulletins have been generated. In the Search field, enter the following terms: I/O
module, 8886, and retain.
Note:
You can find the documentation for I/O modules at the IBM Systems Information
Center, which is at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/systems/index.jsp.
To access the I/O module documentation from this site, click Systems hardware >
BladeCenter information > I/O modules.
To determine which I/O modules are compatible with the BladeCenter S chassis,
see the IBM ServerProven Web site at http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/
serverproven/compat/us/eserver.html.
If you are having problems related to a SAS RAID controller module, refer to the
IBM BladeCenter S SAS RAID Controller Module Installation and User's Guide for
additional troubleshooting information.
I/O module will not power on
If an I/O module will not power on, the problem may be caused by the blade
itself, power supplies, or by configuration settings within the advanced
management module.
Problem
You attempted to power on an I/O module, but it will not power on. All other
components in the BladeCenter S chassis appear to be functioning normally.
Investigation
Perform these steps to resolve the problem:
1. Verify that all power supplies are operating normally and that the wattage
requirements for this configuration meet the overall wattage guidelines for this
BladeCenter S chassis.
To view power consumption from the advanced management module Web
interface, click Monitors > Power Management.
