Ultra320 SCSI on the Adaptec 29320LPE

The Adaptec SCSI 29320LPE is a single channel SCSI card with a maximum throughput of 320
MB/sec. Ultra320 is an enhanced SCSI technology that transfers data at up to 320 MB/sec.
Ultra320 SCSI allows cable length of up to 12 meters for optimal connectivity and flexibility.
See
About Your SCSI CARD on page 13
Note:
For the best data I/O performance, Adaptec recommends that you keep your Low Voltage
Differential (LVD) and non-LVD/SE devices separate. (LVD devices means Ultra320, Ultra160, and
Ultra2 SCSI devices and non-LVD are Fast SCSI or Ultra SCSI devices.)

Device Drivers

An Adaptec SCSI card comes with a set of software device drivers and other files that enable it
to communicate with your system.
For information on how to install the driver for an Adaptec SCSI card, refer to the section of
this User's Guide that describes your specific operating system.

Selecting Cables

This section describes the cable options and requirements for your SCSI card. For information
about cable lengths, see

SCSI Cables

One six-position Ultra320 SCSI LVD cable with terminator is included in the kit.
Depending on your requirements, you may need one 68-pin VHDCI external LVD SCSI cable
(similar to the one shown below) for each external SCSI device you plan to connect.
Adaptec recommends using only high-quality Ultra320-rated cables with multimode
terminators for all disk drives that share a channel with Ultra320 disk drives. Avoid poor
quality cables, as they may degrade reliability. Do not use cables not rated for Ultra320
operation.
Adaptec recommends using only Adaptec SCSI cables. For more information or to purchase
cables, visit the Adaptec Web site at www.adaptec.com.
