    Basic English FD-R 1. Getting started How to use this manual This manual gives step-by-step instructions for safe and correct fitting of the module, and operation. Before you start, we advise you to read the whole manual, particularly the chapter on safety instructions and the FAQ chapter.

    Basic FD-R English Dangerous environments A working area that is too small or cramped is unsuitable and can cause accidents, fires and injury. Prevent this by working in a clean, dry room with enough freedom of movement. Other dangers Children can cause any of the accidents mentioned above because they are inattentive and not responsible enough.

    Basic English FD-R 4. Safe and correct soldering Caution: Incorrect soldering can cause dangers through fires and heat. Avoid these dangers by reading and following the directions given in the chapter Safety instructions. § Use a small soldering iron with max. 30 Watt. Keep the soldering tip clean so the heat of the soldering iron is applied to the solder point effectively.

  • Page 10 Basic English FD-R Function outputs The decoder has two amplified function outputs with a maximum current of 100 mA each, which are available to connect optional accessories (e.g. lighting). In DCC format the function outputs can be switched via the function keys F0 to F12.

  • Page 13 Basic FD-R English Tip: When programming the module with a Motorola central unit the switch into the programming mode, and the status of the programming, are shown by flashing the lighting connected to the outputs AUX1 to AUX 2. You should therefore connect lighting to at least one output before starting to program the module with a Motorola central unit.

Programming the FD-R Basic The FD-R can be used both as a function decoder and as a RailCom transmitter in addition to a locomotive or function decoder that is not compatible to RailCom. The settings for it´s function as a function decoder and the settings of the decoder it serves as a RailCom transmitter are saved in two seperate memory areas, the function decoder area and the RailCom area.
  • Page 16 Basic English FD-R Programming with Motorola central units Put the locomotive on a track oval or a track section connected to the central unit’s track output. Make sure no other vehicle than the one you intend to program is set on the track as the decoder inside this vehicle might be programmed as well.
  • Page 17 Basic FD-R English Reset the central unit (by simultaneously pushing the buttons "stop" and "go" for some time) or quickly switch the central unit off and on. First enter the current address or the address "80" (e.g. if you do not know the current address).
  • Page 18 Basic English FD-R Switching on and off RailCom In CV#29 (DCC format), or in register #7 (Motorola format), is defined if RailCom is switched on or off. Usually, several configuration data are saved here. The value "0" (for RailCom off) or "8" (for RailCom on) has to be added to the value of the other configuration data.

    Basic FD-R English 11. Check list for trouble shooting § Parts are getting very hot and/or start to smoke. Disconnect the system from the mains immediately! Possible cause: one or more connections are soldered incorrectly. à Check the connections. Possible cause: Short circuit. The module is connected to locomotive or carriage ground.
