REMOVING THE SWINGARM

1. Stand the vehicle on a level surface.

WARNING
Securely support the vehicle so that there is
no danger of it falling over.
TIP
Place the vehicle on a maintenance stand so
that the rear wheel is elevated.
2. Remove:
• Rear shock absorber assembly
Refer to "REAR SHOCK ABSORBER AS-
SEMBLY" on page 4-112.
3. Measure:
• Swingarm side play
• Swingarm vertical movement
a. Measure the tightening torque of the pivot
shaft nut.
Pivot shaft nut
105 N·m (10.5 kgf·m, 77 lb·ft)
Pivot shaft ring nut
65 N·m (6.5 kgf·m, 48 lb·ft)
Pivot shaft
7 N·m (0.7 kgf·m, 5.2 lb·ft)
b. Check the swingarm side play "A" by mov-
ing the swingarm from side to side.
If the swingarm has side-to-side play,
check the collars, bearings, and dust cov-
ers.
c. Check the swingarm vertical movement
"B" by moving the swingarm up and down.
If the swingarm vertical movement is not
smooth or if there is binding, check the piv-
ot shaft, collars, bearings, and dust cov-
ers.

4. Remove:
• Drive chain
Refer to "REMOVING THE DRIVE CHAIN"
on page 4-126.
5. Remove:
• Pivot shaft nut
• Pivot shaft ring nut "1"
TIP
Loosen the pivot shaft ring nut with the ring nut
wrench "2".

6. Remove:
• Pivot shaft "1"
TIP
Loosen the pivot shaft with the damper rod hold-
er "2".
Damper rod holder (ø22)

7. Remove:
• Swingarm

CHECKING THE SWINGARM

1. Check:
• Swingarm
Bends/cracks/damage → Replace.
2. Check:
• Pivot shaft
Roll the pivot shaft on a flat surface.
