Operation

Starting Up

Start the system using the following procedures:

Turn on the power at the disconnect devices for all
the drive consoles.

Set the breaker on the UPS device connected to the
basic console to ON and the operating mode switch
to OPERATE.
Notes
• On some UPS devices, steps 2 and 3 may be
performed in reverse order.
• With a DMS-8400B of the system number 0057
or higher or DMS-8800B of the system number
0007 or higher, step 2 is not required.

Set the ROBOT POWER switches and DRIVE
CONTROL POWER switches on the basic console
and all the junction consoles to the I position.
"Power ON" appears in the display window, and
the display changes to "UPS Checking. . .. Please
Wait." Wait until the display changes to "Initial
Request."

Press the INITIAL buttons on the basic console
and all the junction consoles.
The system is initialized.
When initialization is completed, "IN USE"
appears in the display window.
Note
This step may be unnecessary for some settings of
the display panel.

Start the PSC (PetaSite Controller) using the
following procedure:
Perform the following steps to start Windows NT
1 Turn the power to the computer on.
The Log-On window opens.
Open the MMT (Monitoring & Maintenance

Terminal) window following the steps below.
2 When the Log-On window opens, press
[Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] keys.
3 Enter the user name and password set when
installing the PSC, then choose OK.
The MMT Main window will then open.
Note
Steps 2 and 3 may be unnecesasry on some PSC
settings.

Ending

Terminate the system using the following procedure:

Shut down the PSC using the same procedures as
used to exit Windows NT.

Set the ROBOT POWER switches and DRIVE
CONTROL POWER switches on the basic console
and all the junction consoles to the O position.
Two to twenty seconds are required for the power
to go off after you set the switches to OFF. When
the power goes off, all indicators on the display
panel go dark.
If tape transport is in progress, the power will
remain on until the tape-transport operation is
completed.

Check that the power is turned off, set the breaker
on the UPS device to OFF and the operating mode
switch to OPERATE.
Notes
• On some UPS devices, the BYPASS position is
not available.
• With a DMS-8400B of the system number 0057
or higher or DMS-8800B of system number 0007
or higher, step 3 is not required.

Turn the power to the peripheral devices off.
