Standards of switchboards design:
• standard CEI EN 61439-1
• standard CEI EN 61439-2
• standard CEI EN 61439-3
Each operator must comply with these
provisions the supply the appropriate
directives for design and construction
of an assembly "conforming to the
standards".
According to the paragraph 6.2.2. CEI EN
61439-1, the panel builder must supply
the documentation about installation,
commissioning, operation and
maintenance.
Concerning construction requirements,
paragraph 8 specifies that the devices
and the circuits are arranged inside
the panel to facilitate operation,
maintenance and safety.
As option, the panels could include
spaces for the passage of technicians.
Paragraph 8.4.6.2. specifies protective
measures on access to the system by
authorized personnel, upon agreement
between user and panel builder.
Access to live parts is permitted for the
visual inspection or maneuvering and
protective units, relays, fuses, indicator
lamps.
Access to functional units with adjacent
live parts can also be permitted
for maintenance or changes, upon
agreement between user and panel
builder.
Maintenance works or other energized
operations are the topics of paragraph
8.101: "Forms of interior separation".
The panel is subdivided into functional
units which are mutually separated from
other units.
Separation aim are:
• Protection against contacts with
dangerous parts (protection degree
IPXXB, par. 8.4.2.3.).
• Protection against the passage of
extraneous solid bodies from one
functional unit to other (protection
degree at least IP2X.
• Limitation of the possibility of internal
arc fault.
Functional units (definition from
paragraph 3.1.8., CEI EN 61439-1): part of
assembly comprising all the electrical and
mechanical elements including switching
devices that contribute to the fulfillment
of the same function.
The layout illustrated in the following
paragraphs are those typical of
separation by means of barriers and
partitions.
The user and the panel builder can agree
upon special forms of separation or high
degree of protection.
