Use of bacteria fiters in the expiratory side of the patient circuit can cause an undesirable increase in breathing resistance. Particularly when nebulizing aerosols or humidifying the breathing gas, resistance caused by a bacteria filter may slowly increase, leading to increased work of breathing and to intrinsic PEEP.

Savina recognizes when the external battery has been discharged and switches to the internal battery. After the return of AC line power, Savina will first recharge the internal battery and subsequently the external battery. Considerations for Extended Storage If Savina is stored for more than a month without power: Remove fuse for internal battery. This will prevent an unde- sirable deep discharge of the internal battery, which other- wise would continue to supply current to the O sensors.
