Technote - 090 (Rev 1.0)
8 Ports 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet Switch
The Compex DSG1008, 8 ports 10/100/1000Mbps gigabit Ethernet switch, delivers breathtak-
ing speeds to your computer network at an unimaginably affordable price. The DSG1008 of-
fers performance and reliability all within a smart-looking and space-saving design. Gigabit
Ethernet promises to improve your network's backbone throughput tenfold over existing Fast
Ethernet switches, thereby translating into time-savings for power users at home or office.
You can now transfer large multimedia files, CAD drawings and run bandwidth intensive appli-
cations effortlessly.
To serve up the best possible performance, the Compex DSG1008 filters and forwards pack-
ets at full wire-speed. It also features an 4K MAC address table and a complementary self-
learning and aging algorithm, the DSG1008 aims to meet the most demanding network
needs. The support for 802.3x Flow Control in full duplex mode, and back pressure flow con-
trol in half-duplex mode, allows the DSG1008 to relieve possible network congestions and
improves reliability of transmissions. Last but not least, Auto MDI/MDI-X crossover on all ports
eliminate the need for crossover cables or uplink ports.
The Compex DSG1008 is designed stringently to meet the highest industry standards, and it
is compatible with your existing network infrastructure investments while offering you the best-
of-class features and gigabit performance.

High-Performance

The Compex DSG1008's wire-speed archi-
tecture avails up to 16Gbps of switching ca-
pacity in full-duplex mode operation.
It is also equipped with an 4K MAC address
table together with a self-learning and aging
algorithm to meet the most demanding band-
width needs of the power home user and
SMEs.

Compatibility

Compatibility with existing Fast-Ethernet in-
frastructure is a key concerned addressed
with the Compex DSG1008.
It is designed to conform with the IEEE
802.3ab 1000Base-T, IEEE 802.3u 100Base-
TX and IEEE802.3 10Base-T standards,
allowing you to boost the potential network
throughput without sacrificing the present
investments.

Reliability and Ease of Use

802.3x Flow control in full duplex mode and
back pressure flow control in half-duplex
mode are supported in the DSG1008 to en-
sure reliability of transmission amidst a con-
gested network.
The Compex DSG1008 is also incredibly
DSG1008
easy to set up and use. It comes with Auto
MDI/MDI-X crossover on all ports which
eliminates the need for crossover cables or
uplink ports.
The Auto-Negotiation on each port allows the
switch to auto-sense the link speed of the

1000Mbps) and intelligently adjust for optimal
performance.
Externally, the DSG1008 is also adorned
with a comprehensive panel of diagnostic
LEDs, to provide you, at a glance, the link
status and activity.

Form Factor

The Compex DSG1008 encapsulated with a
smart-looking and space-saving desktop
form factor that will complement any office
furnishings or professional working environ-
ment.
