About the FaxPress Enterprise Redundant's File Conversion Service

The FaxPress Enterprise Redundant file conversion service is designed to convert users' source documents to
faxable format, such as TIFF, DCX or PDF, for the FaxPress Enterprise Redundant. For the FaxPress
Enterprise Redundant to send attachments, attached files must be converted from their native format to TIFF,
DCX or PDF, either on the client or the server. On machines with FaxPress Plus client installed, file
conversion is performed on the client. If FaxPress Enterprise Redundant services other than FaxPress Plus are
used to send faxes, file conversion is performed on the FaxPress Enterprise Redundant server.

Installing Applications for the File Conversion Service

Castelle recommends keeping the FaxPress Enterprise Redundant as dedicated network fax servers, and only
installing applications required to support fax transactions. Server-side file conversion is performed if the
following FaxPress Enterprise Redundant services are used:
E-mail Gateway
Web Services Interface
DropFax/Drop Directory
For these services to work, the applications associated with the file formats your organization typically uses
for faxing must be installed on the FaxPress Enterprise Redundant. When faxes are sent and received through
the E-mail Gateway, Web Services Interface or DropFax/Drop Directory, the FaxPress Enterprise Redundant
uses the installed native applications to support file conversion to and from faxable format.
To use these services, install all applications your organization might fax; for example, Microsoft Office 2007
applications and Adobe Acrobat onto the FaxPress Enterprise Redundant. If the application associated with
the file type does not exist on the FaxPress Enterprise Redundant, the attached file will not be faxed and a file
conversion error will be generated for that particular job. Applications can be installed by attaching a monitor,
mouse, and keyboard directly to the Enterprise Redundant or by using Remote Desktop. See
Desktop on page 30
When installing applications, always log in as
the local Administrator account name and password. If the password is changed from the default, the
Conversion Services's local Administrator account password must also be changed to match, or fax
transmissions will be interrupted. See
Administrator Account on page 11
In the case of Outlook, a user profile must also be created and configured on the Enterprise Redundant.
