M. ANTI-TIP TUBES
Anti-tip tubes provide additional safety for inexperienced users when they are still learning
how to operate their wheelchairs.
Anti-tip tubes prevent a wheelchair from tipping over backward.
Pressing the release button allows the anti-tip tubes to be rotated upward or removed. An
interval of 3 cm to 5 cm (1 to 2 inches) should be maintained between the anti-tip tubes
and the ground.
You must rotate the anti-tip tubes upwards when going up and down large obstacles (such
as a curb) to prevent them from touching the ground. Rotate anti-tip tubes down into
functional position after overcoming obstacle.
N. SEAT DEPTH (Figs. 20, 21, 22)
Seat depth is adjusted in two ways:
1. By removing the clips (A) and loosening the cross-tube fasteners (B), the cross-tube
assembly (C) can be moved along the frame, thereby allowing the seat depth to be
changed (depending on the position of the back tubes). Make sure that the clips (A)
always snap into the holes provided in the frame.
2. The seat depth also can be adjusted via the rear frame assembly in one inch increments.
Remove the wheels and armrests and check if the cross brace is in the desired position
(slide cross brace if necessary as described above). Remove the axle plate screws (D).
Move the rear frame assembly into the desired position and replace and tighten all 3
screws. Finally, move the front receiver of the armrest into the required position.
A 2" long seat rail plug (E) and longer seat sling are available for 18" seat depth
(18" & 20" on HD).
Wheel locks must be adjusted for the new position.
O. CRUTCH HOLDER– OPTIONAL
This device permits crutches to be transported directly on a wheelchair. It has a Velcro®
loop to fasten crutches or other aids.
P. ONE-ARM DRIVE– IF SO EQUIPPED
Your chair may be equipped with a One-Arm Drive unit. Rotation of both handrims on one
side of the chair will facilitate independent propulsion.
Q. PNEUMATIC TIRES AND MOUNTING
When equipped with pneumatic tires, always make sure you that you maintain the correct
tire pressure, as this can have an effect on wheelchair performance. If the tire pressure is
too low, rolling resistance will increase, requiring more effort to move the chair forward;
low tire pressure also has a negative impact on maneuverability. If the tire pressure is too
high, the tire could burst.
The correct pressure for a given tire is printed on the surface of the tire itself.
Tires can be mounted the same way as an ordinary bicycle tire.
Before installing a new inner tube, you should always make sure that the base of the rim
and the interior of the tire are free of foreign objects.
Check the pressure after mounting or repairing a tire. It is critical to your safety and to the
wheelchair's performance that regulation air pressure be maintained and that tires be in
good condition.
