4.2 Maintenance work
4.2.1 Replacing the viewing window

When the viewing window has to be replaced, the new viewing window
must be inserted immediately to ensure no humidity enters the
housing.
1. Unscrew the faulty viewing window with a face spanner (size: 35 mm).
2. Position an O-ring on the new viewing window and use a face spanner to
screw it into the housing (tightening torque: 2.5 Nm).
4.2.2 Mounting the support ring for the hip belt
1. Position the support ring so that the eyelets point toward the viewing
window.
2. Slide the support ring onto the lower part of the housing until it snaps into
place.
4.2.3 Mounting the support ring for the shoulder harness or hand strap
1. Position the support ring so that the middle seam points toward the viewing
window.
2. Slide the support ring onto the lower part of the housing until it snaps into
place.
4.2.4 Removing the support ring
 Press between the support ring and the oxygen self-rescuer using a flat-
head screwdriver and remove the support ring.
4.2.5 Mounting the casing protector
1. Position the casing protector so that the centre gap is located below the
viewing window.
2. Slide the casing protector onto the oxygen self-rescuer.
3. Pull the fastening holes in the casing protector onto the hooks of the support
ring.
4.2.6 Dismantling the casing protector
 Take the casing protector off the hooks of the support ring and remove from
the oxygen self-rescuer.
5 Transport
Oxygen self-rescuers are subject to international transport regulations during
transport. Unused oxygen self-rescuers are classified as
UN3356 "Oxygen generator, chemical" Class 5.1, packing group II.
Used oxygen self-rescuers are classified as:
UN 3085, Oxidizing solid, corrosive, n.o.s. (Potassium Superoxide, Potassium
Hydroxide), Class 5.1, packing group I.
Please note any special regulations for the assigned mode of transport.
6 Storage
Store the oxygen self-rescuer in a cool, dry location. Storage temperature see
section 9 on page 11.
7 Disposal
7.1 General
The oxygen self-rescuer must not be disposed of as household waste. It must be
disposed of in accordance with the applicable waste disposal regulations or via
a suitable disposal company. Refer to the safety data sheet for further
information.
7.2 Life span
When the device is used in normal ambient conditions (see section 9 on
page 11) and in single-shift operation (8 hours per day, 5 days per week), the
normal life span of the oxygen self-rescuer is 10 years. An accumulated life span
of 20800 operating hours must not be exceeded, e.g.:

Furthermore, the life span of the oxygen self-rescuer expires if one of the tests
in Section 3.3 fails. In this case, the oxygen self-rescuer must be put out of
operation and must not be used again.

7.3 Disposal by the customer

Prevent combustible substances from entering the oxygen self-
rescuer!
CAUTION

Chemical burn hazard!
The chemicals of the oxygen self-rescuer react with humidity or water
to form a caustic base. The base may seriously damage the eyes and
irritate the skin and respiratory tracts.
When handling the oxygen self-rescuer always wear spectacles and
base-resistant gloves.
1. Remove the starter from the functional part.
2. Remove the KO cartridge from the housing and submerge it in a large

quantity of water until no more gas bubbles rise to the surface.
3. Neutralise the solution with 3 % acid (e.g. hydrochloric acid).
4. Dispose of all parts of the oxygen self-rescuer in accordance with the
applicable rules and regulations.
7.4 Disposal by Dräger
Dräger will take this product back in a cost-sharing arrangement. During this
process, Dräger will decide whether the product will be reused. For information
please contact the national marketing organisations or Dräger.
Prepare damaged, opened, used up or expired oxygen self-rescuers as follows:
 For opened or damaged oxygen self-rescuers, trigger the starter before the
transport. For unopened devices, the starter does not need to be triggered.
 Put the oxygen self-rescuer into a hermetically sealed foil pouch, then place
the pouch in an approved package (e.g. Dräger Transport Package
Dräger Oxy 3000: 63 05 202, Dräger Oxy 6000: 63 06 202).
 Send the oxygen self-rescuer to the following address in accordance with
transport regulations:
