2. Safety
Do not start the engine by making a jumper across the starter motor wires. If the normal electrical circuit is
disabled the engine will start if gear is engaged. NEVER start the engine if you are not on the machine.
Start the engine only from the driving position, with gear in neutral or in parking position.
CAUTION:
The battery gives off gases that might explode. Keep batteries away from sparks and
flames. Check the electrolyte level inside the battery using an electric torch. Do not check
the battery charge by connecting the two poles with a metallic object. Use instead a
voltmeter or a densimeter. Remove the battery negative terminal (–) first and refit it last.
The sulphuric acid contained in the battery electrolyte is poisonous and caustic for the
skin and tissues, and also causes blindness in contact with the eyes.
Prevent the risks as follows:
• Top up batteries in well-ventilated rooms
• Wear protective goggles and rubber gloves
• Do not clean the batteries with compressed air
• While topping up, do not breathe the fumes released by the electrolyte
• Do not spill or spread the electrolyte
• Use the correct starting procedure
If acid gets in contact with the skin or eyes:
• Immediately rinse the skin.
• Apply some sodium bicarbonate or limewater to neutralise the acid.
• Wash your eyes with water for 15/30 minutes.
• Immediately seek medical advice.
If you swallow some acid:
• Do not induce vomit
• Drink much water or milk, no more than 2 litres.
• Immediately seek medical advice.

2.3.11 Setting the machine on support

If tractor shall be set onto some supports, first of
all choose a perfectly flat, sturdy enough support
surface. Do not use waste blocks or hollow bricks
to support the machine or any other material
susceptible to collapse under continuous load.
Never work under a machine supported by just a
jack. Use suitable supports for the load to be
supported. When using equipment or accessories
together with the machine, always strictly follow
the safety precautions given in the operator's
manual of the accessory or equipment. Before
attempting any intervention on the machine,
always set the accessory or equipment to the
ground.
4-wheel drive tractor:
• If the rear axle is on the supports, do not start
the engine (the tractor could in fact move if you
work the brakes (service brake or hand brake).
• If the rear axle is onto a support and if engine
shall be started, the front axle must be set onto
a support, too.
