Standard cooking zones have one heat-
ing element, while variable cooking
zones and extended zones have two.
Depending on the model, the heating
elements may be separated by an insu-
lating ring.
Each cooking zone has overheating
protection (a temperature limiter), which
stops the ceramic surface from becom-
ing too hot (see "Safety features – Over-
heating protection").
When a power level is selected, the
heat switches on and the element can
be seen through the ceramic surface.
The temperature of the cooking zone
depends on the power level selected,
and is electronically regulated. This
controls the "timing" of a cooking zone,
switching the element on and off.
