Overview The Adaptec AUA-2000, AUA-3100LP, AUA-4000A, and AUA-5100 USB (Universal Serial Bus) adapters are compatible with USB 1.1 Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) and USB 2.0 Enhance Host Controller Interface (EHCI) devices and work in virtually any PCI slot.

    Readme Installing Jumpers – AUA-5100 only The Adaptec AUA-5100 adapter has six USB connectors—one internal and five external. However, only five connectors can be used at any one time. You can control which connectors are enabled (usable) by setting a jumper.
  • Page 13 Installing the USB2Connect Adapter 1 Discharge any static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal object (such as the exposed metal parts on the back of your computer). 2 Turn off power to the computer and disconnect the power cord. 3 Open the computer cabinet.
  • Page 14 5 Low-profile computers only– To install the AUA-3100LP adapter in a low-profile computer, replace the existing full-height bracket with the low-profile bracket included in your kit. Remove and replace the bracket attachment screws on the adapter as shown below. 6 Insert the USB2connect adapter into the PCI expansion slot. Press down firmly until the card clicks into place.

    Installing the Windows Drivers Windows 98 SE Windows 98 SE requires three device driver installations using the Add New Hardware Wizard because the operating system has no embedded USB drivers. During driver installation, you may need to use the operating system CD. 1 Turn on the computer and insert the USB2connect CD.

When you use the USB2connect installer as described on page 22, the DisableSleep driver (shown at right) is installed and the Deep Sleep feature is disabled.

    Connecting USB Devices You can connect standard USB 1.1 or high-speed USB 2.0 devices to the connectors of the USB2connect adapter, as shown below. Hotplugging The USB2connect adapter supports hot-plugging, allowing USB devices to be attached and recognized while the computer is on. Device manufacturers support hot-plugging in different ways.
