7 - Fault finding

Liquid system

FAULT
No spray from boom when turned on.
Lack of pressure.
Pressure dropping.
Pressure increasing.
Formation of foam.
Liquid leaks from bottom of pump.
Grease leaks from the bottom of the pump.
Grease leaks from the shaft grease seals.
Vibrations in system and unpleasant noise from
pump.
Lack of flow/capacity.
Extreme internal erosion on diaphragm covers and
housing.
Short diaphragm life.
Operating unit not functioning or having
malfunction.

PROBABLE CAUSE
SmartValve positions wrong.
Suction/pressure filters clogged.
No suction from tank.
Incorrect assembly.
Air in system.
Too much agitation.
Pump valves blocked or worn.
Blocked filters
Defect pressure gauge.
Filters clogging.
Nozzles worn.
Sucking air towards end of tank load.
Pressure filters beginning to clog.
Air is being sucked into system.
Excessive liquid agitation.
Damaged diaphragm.
Grease used has too low viscosity.
Grease used has too low viscosity.
Bearings worn/too high friction.
Air is being sucked into system.
Pump valves are blocked or worn.
Internal wear on connecting rod and ring.
Pump valves are blocked or worn.
Too high vacuum caused by plugged suction filter or
excessive pump r.p.m.
Lack of internal cleaning.
Lack of conservation of the fluid system during
storage.
Over speeding of the pump.
Blown fuse(s).
Wrong polarity.
Valves not closing properly.
No power.
CONTROL/REMEDY
Set correct valve positions for spraying.
Clean suction and pressure filters.
See if suction fitting in main tank sump is free of
sedimentation.
Boost valve is open.
Fill suction hose with water for initial prime.
Close the agitation valve.
Check for obstructions and wear. Replace if necessary.
Clean all filters.
Check for dirt at inlet of gauge.
Clean all filters. Fill with cleaner water. If using
powders, make sure agitation is on.
Check flow rate and replace nozzles if it exceeds 10%.
Lower pump r.p.m.
Clean all filters.
Check tightness/gaskets/O-rings of all fittings on
suction side.
Reduce pump r.p.m.
Check safety valve is tight.
Ensure returns inside tank are present.
Use foam damping additive.
Replace. See changing of valves and diaphragms.
Change to recommended grease type.
Change to recommended grease type
Replace pump bearings and grease seals.
Check for leaks, holes in hoses, tightness/gaskets/O-
rings of all fittings on suction side.
Check for obstructions and wear. Replace if necessary.
Poor greasing. Replace parts as needed and observe
proper grease quality and intervals.
Check for obstructions and wear. Replace if necessary.
Replace affected pump parts.
Clean suction filter and observer max. pump r.p.m.
Use recommended cleaning procedures and add
extra cleaning agents.
Always use a proper mixture of antifreeze during
storage.
Observe max. pump r.p.m.
Check mechanical function of microswitches. Use
cleaning/lubricating agent if the switch does not
operate freely.
Check motor. 450-500 milli-Amperes max. Change
motor, if over.
Brown to positive (+). Blue to negative (-).
Check valve seals for obstructions.
Check microswitch plate position. Loosen screws
holding plate a 1/2 turn.
Wrong polarity. Check that brown is pos. (+), Blue is
neg. (-).
Check print plate for dry solders or loose connections.
Check fuse holder is tight around fuse.
