12.5

Light intensity is too low

Danger
Never look into the emitting end of the light guide.
1. Ensure that the shutter is opening and that some discernible amount of light energy is being
emitted from the light guide. If the emitting end of the light guide is not transmitting any
amount of light energy, and the shutter is not opening, refer to section 12.4. If the emitting
end of the light guide is not transmitting any amount of light energy and the shutter is
opening, refer to section 12.3.
2. Open the lamp drawer and ensure that the lamp module is installed properly. Check that it is
seated properly within the lamp mounting bracket.
3. Examine the light guide for possible bends, kinks or other physical damage. Replace the light
guide if any physical damage is observed.
4. Ensure that there are no foreign substances such as cured adhesives on the emitting end of the
light guide. Clean the emitting end of the light guide if any substances are found.
5. Insert a light guide which is known to have good transmission qualities into the light guide
retainer. If the measured light energy is within acceptable limits, replace the old light guide
with a new one. Operation can continue with the new light guide.
6. If the new light guide transmits the same amount of light energy as the old one, replace the
lamp module as per the instructions in section 3.4.
7. If the light energy output remains low after the lamp module has been replaced, continue on
to section 15.2.
12.6

Maximum intensity available is abnormally high/ low

1. If, during an exposure setup procedure, the Max Intensity Available: displays a
reading which is too high or too low, ensure that some amount of light energy is being
transmitted by the emitting end of the light guide. If some light energy can be detected, refer
to section 12.5.
2. If no light energy is emitted from the light guide, check to see if the ON/OFF shutter is
opening. If the shutter is not opening, refer to section 12.4. If the shutter is in fact opening,
refer to section 12.3.
3. Ensure the correct light guide diameter has been selected. See section 5.9.
4. Ensure a 'calibration procedure' (from the main menu) has been done within the last 8 hours.
