Connector HD D-Sub 15 pin male, pin 13: remote power ON/OFF input
This signal can be used to initiate the power down sequence during which the lamp is shut off,
allowed to cool down, then AC power is automatically switched OFF for the entire unit. This
input is a zero voltage type of input. This signal is accessible after AC has been applied, the AC
mains switch has been switched ON and the Novacure has warmed up and reached the main
menu. The Novacure will go through it's power down sequence when this input signal is pulled
low (and held low) to the common (GND) of the external power source. In order for the unit to
become operational once again this signal must be disconnected from common. This signal
bypasses the operation of the AC mains switch provided that the AC mains switch is in the ON
position.
Connector HD D-Sub 15 pin male, pins 14 and 15: remote power ON/OFF signal status
output
This signal provides a feedback to any remotely connected equipment on the power status of the
Novacure. This signal, which is accessible through pins 14 and 15, is ON (NPN transistor is ON)
while the Novacure is powered up and will remain ON until the lamp has turned OFF, cooled
down and the unit has automatically shut OFF. Once the Novacure has been powered down,
either locally or remotely, and has completely shut down, this signal (NPN transistor in the
optocoupler) will switch OFF.

4 position circular connector

4 position circular connector pins 1 and 2: intensity monitor output
This signal provides an analog output voltage, which represents the optical output intensity
exiting the Novacure's light guide port. The signal ranges from 0 to +5VDC over the range of 0
to 20,000mWcm
-output intensity. The signal is capable of driving loads with up to 1mA but
2
ideally would be connected to a high impedance instrument (>10Kohms). The relationship
between output voltage and optical output intensity is 250mV per 1000mw/cm² when using a
5mm light guide. The intensity monitor's common (GND) is located on pin 2 of the connector
while the positive is located on pin 1.
4 position circular connector pins 3 and 4: shutter interlock input
This signal can be used to immediately close the shutter on the Novacure. This is an active high
signal, whereby biasing this input with a voltage (from +5V to +24V) will prevent the shutter
from opening or close the shutter if it is already open. The positive input is on pin 3 and the
negative (common) input is on pin 4. Leaving this signal open will result in normal unit
operation.
