Chapter 1: Overview Chapter 1: Overview N O T E : Aerotech continually improves its product offerings; listed options may be superseded at any time. All drawings and illustrations are for reference only and were complete and accurate as of this manual’s release.
1.2. Accuracy and Temperature Effects Aerotech products are designed for and built in a 20°C (68°F) environment. Extreme temperature changes could cause a decrease in performance or permanent damage to the ABRT. At a minimum, the environmental temperature must be controlled to within 0.25ºC per 24 hours to ensure the ABRT specifications are repeatable over an extended period of time.
1.3. Basic Specifications 1.3. Basic Specifications N O T E : Aerotech continually improves its product offerings; listed options may be superseded at any time. All drawings and illustrations are for reference only and were complete and accurate as of this manual’s release.
Air pressure must be in the range of 551 kPa ± 34 kPa (80 psi ± 5 psi) with an airflow rate of 56 SLPM (standard liters per minute) at 551 kPa for a single axis. Aerotech recommends that you connect the air supply with a polyurethane air hose.
If the ABRT has shipped as part of a system, shipping clamps (typically red, anodized aluminum) could have been installed to secure the system prior to shipment. The shipping clamps, if installed, will need to be removed prior to machine start up. Figure 2-1: ABRT with Shipping Clamps www.aerotech.com...
2.2. Dimensions 2.2. Dimensions N O T E : Aerotech continually improves its product offerings; listed options may be superseded at any time. 2-6. Mounting the stage with the axis of rotation in a horizontal orientation is acceptable but could have a negative effect on performance. Consult Aerotech for more information if your application requires a horizontal axis of rotation configuration. Tightening torque values for the mounting hardware are dependent on the properties of the surface to which the stage is being mounted.

N O T E : If your ABRT was purchased with Aerotech controls, it might have been tuned with a representative payload based on the information provided at the time of order. If the ABRT is started up without a payload, the servo gains provided by Aerotech with the shipment may not be appropriate and servo instability can occur.
Electrical installation requirements will vary depending on product options. Installation instructions in this section are for ABRT stages equipped with standard Aerotech motors intended for use with an Aerotech motion control system. Contact Aerotech for further information regarding products that are otherwise configured.
N O T E : Refer to the other documentation accompanying your Aerotech equipment. Call your Aerotech representative if there are any questions on system configuration. N O T E : If using standard Aerotech motors and cables, motor and encoder connection adjustments are not required.

All motor and controller manufacturers have their own designations for motor phases A/B/C and Hall signals A/B/C (refer to Section 3.5. for motor phasing). Shielded cables are required for the motor and feedback connections. Figure 3-1: Motor and Feedback Wiring www.aerotech.com...
318 rpm N O T E : The encoders used on all ABRT series stages come standard with a 40 MHz clock rate. Aerotech can provide slower or faster clock rates to match the controller being used. Consult Aerotech for more information.
(6) Losses due to bearings and aerodynamics are considered negligible (7) Maximum winding temperature is 100 °C (thermistor trips at 100 °C) (8) Ambient operating temperature range 0 °C - 25 °C; consult Aerotech for performance in elevated ambient temperatures (9) All Aerotech amplifiers are rated A ;...
ABRT Hardware Manual 3.4. Limits, Marker, and Machine Direction Aerotech stages are configured to have positive and negative "machine" directions. The machine direction defines the phasing of the feedback and motor signals and is dictated by the stage wiring (refer to Section 3.5.

Chapter 4: Maintenance Chapter 4: Maintenance The ABRT series stages are designed to require minimum maintenance. Due to the non-contact air bearing design, there are no friction surfaces or dynamic seals to wear or require lubrication. This chapter will detail the cleaning process and specify recommended cleaning solvents.
