    Trimble Ranger 3 handheld computer . Audience and Purpose Instructions are included for Trimble Ranger 3 handheld users who are installing the ORION Field Application 4 .x .x software for the first time, and for users who are updating to version 4 .x .x .

    Removing Previous Software Versions REMOVING PREVIOUS SOFTWARE VERSIONS Before installing the new software, remove all older versions of the software on the handheld . The Factory Reset/Clean Boot method (1) is recommended . Read the descriptions below and choose the appropriate procedure based on your handheld setup .

    Installing Software INSTALLING SOFTWARE The software comes loaded on the DVD provided by Badger Meter . Transferring Software File from the DVD to a USB Memory Stick 1 . Load the software DVD on a computer with a DVD drive .

    If the memory stick is not inserted, Hard Disk does not display . Figure 26: Hard disk files 4 . Tap to select the Badger Meter software application file . Result: The software installation process begins and, after a few seconds, the location selection screen opens.

    MPORTANT The COM port(s) must be set correctly for the handheld and the Badger Meter software to operate correctly. After each software update, go to Settings on the software main menu, view the settings for the handheld and any hardware, and adjust the COM ports, if necessary, to ensure correct operation.
