- Descaling the coffee maker must be performed approximately once a month, depending on the water
hardness.
- If descaling is required, the indicator light of the CLEAN button (Q) blinks 3 times at the end of the cycle.
WARNING: if the indicator light of the CLEAN button (Q) is lit up and you press the button
it is the descaling cycle that will start, not the brewing cycle.
How to descale your KRUPS coffee maker
■ Remove the filter cartridge (S). Fig. 21 and 22.
■ Use the KRUPS descaling solution
or 40 g of citric acid diluted in a half-litre of water until the crystals have completely dissolved. Fig. 23.
■ Pour the solution into the water tank (without coffee). Fig. 24.
■ Press the CLEAN button (Q) to start the descaling cycle. Fig. 25.
■ This cycle lasts 30 min. Please wait until the end of the cycle.
■ If the water tank has not been emptied at the end of the descaling cycle, restart another cycle by pressing
on the CLEAN button (Q).
■ To rinse the machine, start 2 complete 12-cup cycles with water, but without coffee Fig. 26.
■ Repeat the operation as needed.
■ Reinsert the filter cartridge. Fig. 29 and 30.
■ The guarantee does not cover coffee makers that malfunction or cease to operate because they
have not been regularly descaled.
Filter cartridge
■ Your appliance enables you to filter water using DuoFilter filters: its double action filter – reduce chlorine
and scale – is based on active plant ingredients. The Duo Filter cartridge enables you to enjoy the subtle
aromas of your coffee and reduces the frequency of descaling operations.
Please note: The upper part of the water filter holder features a rotating counter that indicates
when you need to replace the DuoFilter filter.
■ Select the number of the month when you replace the filter. It will indicate the month on which you must
change your filter depending on your water hardness (Start): 1 / Cartridge change for hard water: 3 /
Cartridge change for soft water: 5). Fig. 28.
■ To change the filter, remove the filter cartridge from the water tank. Fig. 29.
■ Open it by pulling on the lower part, and then replacing the filter. Fig. 29 and 30.
IMPORTANT:
The DuoFilter filter must only be used with water.
Your coffee maker runs even if the water filter is not installed.
If you haven't used your coffee maker for more than one month, rinse the DuoFilter filter under
running water.
We recommend against leaving your DuoFilter filter in without replacing it for more than 5
months.
