Do not use wrench extensions as this could cause considerable damage to threads and
gaskets. This could lead to leakage and uncontrolled expulsion of gas!
5.3. INTERNAL GAS PURGING (TYPE -35)
Self-purging battery pressure reducers are used as a means of removing outside air which
enters the system when the cylinder is changed.
1. Close all valves.
2. Slowly open/close right-hand cylinder valve.
3. Open/close right-hand purging gas valve.
4. Repeat purging cycle 10x.
5. Slowly open/close left-hand cylinder valve.
6. Open/close left-hand purging gas valve.
7. Repeat purging cycle 10x.
During initial start-up purge the entire unit via the service gas outlet!!
5.4 EXTERNAL GAS PURGING (TYPE -39)
Stations with external gas purging make it possible to: dry the fi tting and/or remove damp
atmospheric air which may have entered the station before start-up or when changing
cylinders, purge out toxic, corrosive or pyrophoric gases from the fi tting before changing
cylinders and before ending operation.
Dry, clean purging gas N2 5.0 or Ar 5.0 is required for successful purging.
1. Check that the purge gas inlet (12), purge gas outlet (5), process gas outlet (BA) and
connection spiral (7) are connected correctly.
2. Process gas inlet valve (4) as well as the purge gas inlet valve (9) and purge gas outlet
valve (5) (handwheel of valves at right angles to the pipe).
3. Close the pressure regulator (1) by turning the handwheel anti-clockwise.
4. Open the purge gas inlet valve (9).
5. Open the process gas inlet valve (4).
6. Open the pressure regulator (1) partially by turning the handwheel approx. two
revolutions clockwise.
7. Close the purge gas inlet valve (9). Allow the purging gas which has now fl owed into the
station to remain there for a few seconds.
8. Open the purge gas outlet valve (5) briefl y and allow the purging gas to escape via the
purge gas outlet. Then close the purge gas outlet valve (5) again immediately.
9. Repeat steps 4., 7. and 8. between fi ve and seven times.
10. Close all valves of the station. Close the pressure regulator (3) completely by turning the
handwheel anticlockwise.
5.5 START-UP
Before start-up you must check whether the existing fi tting is suitable for the proposed
application (gas type, pressure, material, etc.) by refering to the data plate.
Before switching on the pressure unit make certain that no one could be endangered by
starting up the pressure unit.
If required, implement self-purging before starting up and fi lling the succeeding pipe system.
1. Check whether the purging and waste gas pipes and the spiral have been installed
correctly.
2. Close all valves.
3. Turn the change-over switch lever to the right.
4. Slowly open the right-hand/left-hand cylinder valves.
5. Slowly open the right-hand/left-hand service gas valves.
The change-over switch lever always points to the cylinder in use.
