flatten float type. To recast the unsigned integer
back to float use:

are immediately available for USB read. The
contents occupy effectively the lower two bytes.
In the case of SPI, contents are transferred to the
serial output buffer, so a second query to the

transfer its contents and also to clear the output
buffer.
