Replace oil filter when changing engine oil, or when the interval
(years) is reached, at the latest (→ Page 132).
Check engine oil level (→ Page 51).
Check engine visually for leaks and general condition.
Check intercooler drain (if fitted) (→ Page 51).
Check signal ring position of service indicator (→ Page 51).
Check water pump(s) relief bores (→ Page 51).
Check for abnormal running noise, exhaust gas color and vibrations
(→ Page 51).
Drain water and contaminants at the drain cock of fuel prefilter (if
fitted) (→ Page 51).
Check reading on differential pressure gauge of fuel prefilter (if fitted)
(→ Page 51).
Centrifugal oil filter (if fitted): Check layer thickness of the oil residue,
clean out and replace filter sleeve (→ Page 133).
Replace fuel filter or fuel filter element (→ Page 112).
Check valve clearance (→ Page 102).
Check drive belt condition and tension, replace if necessary
(→ Page 148); adjust belt tension (→ Page 149).
Replace air filter (→ Page 122).
Replace fuel injectors (→ Page 106).
Perform endoscopic examination (→ Page 96).
Crankcase breather: Replace filter or filter element (→ Page 99).
Overhaul turbocharger (→Workshop Manual).
Prior to maintenance work, drain coolant and flush coolant circuits.
Check rockers and valve bridge for wear. Visually inspect swing
follower and camshaft running faces with endoscope through pushrod
bore (→Workshop Manual).
Clean air system (→Workshop Manual).
Clean intercooler and check for leaks (→Workshop Manual).
Replace fuel HP sensor (→Workshop Manual).
Check engine coolant thermostat and replace thermostat element
(→Workshop Manual).
Check charge-air coolant thermostat and replace thermostat element
(→Workshop Manual).
Overhaul engine coolant preheating (if fitted) (→Workshop Manual).
Check centrifugal oil filter for wear (if fitted) (→Workshop Manual).
