F. Jack rearof tractor u p until rear wheels areoff
theground and support rearof tractoron jack
stands. (Fig. 14) Snap o f f right and left wheel
bearing caps and pry "E" ring off of both ends
o f axle. Remove washers from both ends o f
axle.

G. Pull right and left wheel assemblies off axle.
Remove both square keys and siide right and
left wheel spacers and flat washers off axle.
NOTE: When reinstalling wheel spacers, long-
er spacer should be installed on right axle.

H. Jack rear of tractor u p and remove jack
stands. Lower rear o f tractor to the ground.

Unbolt two capscrews, attaching left and
right axle mount brackets to transaxle.

Ralse rearof tractor u p and disconnect speed
control link from gear select lever (Fig. 13)
and push tractor forward over transaxle and
lower to the ground.
K. Service transaxle as required per manufac-
turer's specifications. Reverse above proce-
dures to install transaxle. Pay attention t o the
various "NOTES" cal\ed out in disassembly
procedure when reassembling and lubricate
all linkage pivot points with SAE 30 wt. oil.
NOTE: Aftertraction drive belt is installed o n
pulley and transaxle issecurely tightened, set
transaxle pulley belt guides t o a maximum 'h"
away from belt and pulley when belt is in the
"ENGAGED" position. (Fig. 17)
2. Traction Drive Brake Adjustment

WARNING: T o avoid accidental starting, re-
move spark p l u g wires and secure away from
spark plugs.
A. Check adjustment at brake adjustment rod.
With brake 'ENGAGED", spring should be
compressed t o dimension shown in (Fig. 13).
If it isn't. turn locknut until dimension is
achieved.
B. Test brake adjustment by pushing tractor
forward while holding ciutchlbrake pedal
down. If brake does not stop rear wheels,
continue with step "C".
C. With gear shift lever in "Nu (neutral) position
and clutch/brake pedal up, hold inside jam
nut at transaxle brake and loosen outside jam
nut. (Fig. 13)
D. Turn inside jam nut clockwise to t ~ g h t e n
brake
E. Check adjustment by pushing tractorforward
while holding clutchlbrake pedal down. If
brake does not stop rear wheels. repeat step
"D" until brake is tight.
F. With clutch/brake pedal up, push tractorfor-
ward. If brake pad drags against brake disk.
turn inside jam nut counterclockwlseone half
turn. Repeat procedure if brake pad still
drags.
G. When adjustment is correct, hold inside jam
nut and tighten outside jam n u t against it.
NOTE: I f brake still does not perform pro-
perly, follow procedures below for "BRAKE
PAD REPLACEMENT".
3. Brake Pad Replacement

Replace both brake pads when the brake can n o
longer beadjusted to hold thetractororwhen the
thickness of either pad

less than the thickness
of ignition key. Follow procedures below for
brake pad replacement.

WARNING: T o avoid accidental starting, re-
move spark p l u g wires and secure away f r o m
spark plugs.
A. Remove cotter pin attaching brake adjust-
ment r o d t o brakelever. Detach brakeadjust-
ment rod. (Fig. 13)

Remove t w o thread forming screws securing
brake pad holder to transaxle case. (Fig. 15)
NOTE: Note location of the spacer o n rear
mounting screw for reassembly. (Fig. 15)
