■ Like an automobile brake, the chain brake on your chain
saw incurs wear each time it is engaged. In order for the
chain brake on your STIHL chain saw to properly perform
its function of reducing the risk of kickback and other
injuries, it must be properly maintained. For the proper
and effective operation of the chain brake, return the chain
saw to your STIHL servicing dealer for periodic inspection
and servicing of the brake system according to the
following schedule:
– Heavy Usage: every 3 months
– Moderate Usage: every 6 months
– Occasional Usage: every 12 months
■ Return the chain saw immediately for maintenance
whenever the brake system cannot be thoroughly cleaned
or there is a change in its operating characteristics.
■ This electric chain saw is double-insulated. In such an
appliance, two systems of insulation are provided as
protection against electric shock. No grounding means are
provided, nor should means for grounding be added to the
appliance. Servicing a double-insulated appliance
requires extreme care and knowledge of the system, and
should be done only by qualified service personnel.
■ Use of parts that are not authorized or approved by STIHL
may cause serious or fatal injury or property damage.
– STIHL recommends that only identical authorized
STIHL replacement parts be used for repair or
maintenance.
■ To reduce the risk of electric shock:
– Ensure that the insulation of the power supply cord,
extension cord and plug are in good condition and
show no signs of aging (brittleness), wear or
damage.
– Never use your chain saw if the casing around the
motor is cracked or damaged.

■ Improper storage can result in unauthorized use, damage
to the chain saw and an increased risk of fire, electric
shock and other personal injury or property damage.
– Engage the chain brake by moving the front hand
guard forward to
from the power supply before storing.
– Never store the chain saw with the plug of the power
supply cord connected to an extension cord or a wall
outlet.
– Store the chain saw indoors in a dry, secure place
that cannot be accessed by children or other
unauthorized users.
