SECTION 4 BATTERY MAINTENANCE & CHARGING

4-1 SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR HANDLING ACID BATTERIES

Park the tugger securely before carrying out any work on the batteries.
Maintenance personnel: Batteries may only be charged, serviced or replaced by
trained personnel.
Fire protection:
• Smoking and any flames or sparks must be avoided when working with batteries.
• Wherever a tugger is parked for charging, there shall be no flammable
liquids or materials or anything capable of creating sparks within 10 feet
around the tugger.
• The area must be well ventilated.
• Fire protection equipment must be provided.
Protection against electric shock:
• Batteries contain high energy capable of producing strong electric current.
• Do not short circuit the batteries.
• Do not short tools to the two poles of the battery, which can cause sparks, heat
or fire.
