Releasing RAID Drives
Use the following procedure to release a RAID drive
when it is no longer needed.
Notes
• When using a Fibre Channel Storage Unit in a shared
environment, power off all Digital Media
Workstations except the one you are working on
before performing this operation.
• Be careful when releasing RAID drives, because they
cannot be recovered once released.
• Before using the Disk Utility to delete a RAID drive,
delete the logical drive using the Windows Disk
Management menu. If you do not delete the logical
drive, errors will be reported in Disk Utility logs and
Windows event logs.
1
On the menu bar, select Disk/RAID (D) > Release
RAID (R).
The Release RAID dialog appears.
2
Trace down through the tree structure on the left
side of the main window, and select the icon of the
RAID drive that you want to release.
Selectable drives are single hard disks (shown in
the tree in yellow) and RAID drives.
The RAID ID of the RAID you selected appears in
the Release RAID dialog.
3
Click the OK button.
A confirmation dialog appears. The RAID drive is
released when you click the OK button in the
dialog.
A few seconds may be needed when releasing a
RAID drive.
If the RAID drive was released successfully, the
System Reboot dialog appears.
If you want to enable the settings immediately,
click the Reboot Now button to reboot the main
unit.
If you want to continue by creating or releasing
more RAID drives, click the CLOSE button to
close the dialog.
Clearing the Used Status of Hard Disks
Hard disks in a RAID drive are given Used Status if
even one disk in the same RAID drive cannot be
detected by the system. A hard disk, for example,
becomes unresponsive due to a Broken HDD.
To clear the Used status of hard disks, proceed as
follows.
Notes
• When using a Fibre Channel Storage Unit in a shared
environment, power off all Digital Media
Workstations except the one you are working on
before performing this operation.
• Hard disks in a RAID drive are also given Used
status when any other hard disks in the same RAID
drive are removed from the Fibre Channel Storage
Unit. Note that if you clear the Used status of these
drives it becomes impossible to reconstruct the RAID
drive.
