Open the front door to install or remove hard disks or
to set the FC unit address switch. The front door has an
EMI (electromagnetic interference) shield. You can
lock the front door with the supplied key.
Note
Never open the front door while the unit is operating.
2 Power indicator (green)
Lights to show that the unit is operating.
3 System check indicator (amber)
Lights when an error occurs in this unit. Check also the
indicators on the rear panel if you do not understand
the cause of the error.
Note
This indicator also lights when only the Fibre Channel
Storage Unit is powered on, and during the period up
to the time when the operating system of the Main
Unit starts. This is normal and does not indicate a
malfunction.
4 FC unit address indicators 0 to 11
When several storage units are connected, these
indicators light to show the address assigned to this
storage unit with the FC unit address switch.
5 Disk status indicators 0 to 9
The amber indicators in the upper row are disk check
indicators. They light when an error occurs in the
corresponding disk module.
The green indicators in the lower row are disk active
indicators. They show the activity status of each disk
module, as follows.
Not lit: The disk module slot is empty.
Flashing (mostly not lit): The hard disk is powered up
but not spinning, a normal part of the spin up
sequence.
Flashing (at a constant rate): The hard disk is
spinning up or spinning down normally.
Lit: The hard disk is spinning but not handling any I/O
activity.
Flashing (mostly lit): The hard disk is spinning and
handling I/O activity.
6 FC unit address switch
When you connect more than one Fibre Channel
Storage Units, you need to specify a unique address (0
to 11) for each unit.
To set the address of a Fibre Channel Storage Unit,
insert a rod or narrow screwdriver into the one of the
holes at the left and right of the address displayed on
the FC unit address switch, and press the switch inside
the hole. Pressing the right-side switch increments the
address, and pressing the left-side switch decrements
the address.
Note
Always power the Fibre Channel Storage Unit off
before changing its address.
7 Fan check indicator (yellow)
Lights when a fan is faulty.
8 Drive fan pack
This is a fan unit integrated into the Fibre Channel
Storage Unit. One drive fan pack contains three fans.
The fan check indicator on the fan pack lights
whenever any of the fans is faulty. Remove the drive
fan pack before powering the Fibre Channel Storage
Unit on or off.
Note
You can remove the drive fan pack without powering
the Fibre Channel Storage Unit off. When you remove
the drive fan pack, the cooling check indicator begins
to flash. If the drive fan pack is removed for more than
two minutes, power to the hard disk drives is cut
automatically. (The Fibre Channel Storage Unit itself
remains powered on.) The hard disk drives are
powered on again when you replace the drive fan pack.
9 AC power connector
Connect to an AC power source with the specified AC
power cord.
Caution
Always use the specified AC power cord. Use of
another cord can damage the unit.
See page A-5 for more information about the AC power
cord.
