ESS 3000 issues

ESS 3000 Boot issues
If you face issues when pinging the service port interface ('gear symbol' IP 10.0.0.101 (Canister 2) or
10.0.0.102 (Canister 1)), five minutes after booting the nodes up, perform the following checks:
• Verify if the Ethernet cable on both the ends has a solid green light.
• Check that your laptop is set to 10.0.0.100 netmask 255.255.255.0.
• Verify that you are plugged into the correct port (Service port on Canister).
• Ensure that it is pointing to the correct Canister IP (Canister 1 or 2):
– 10.0.0.102 for Canister 1 (Top)
– 10.0.0.101 for Canister 2 (Bottom)
If the issues still persist, shut down the node (pull power) and perform the following steps:
• Connect a terminal to the canister (monitor to VGA port and keyboard to USB port).
• Put power back to the ESS 3000 unit.
Note: You will be able to watch the boot process and take appropriate actions when problems arise.
ESS 3000 Login issues
Note: The default password is ibmesscluster and must be changed after the first login. Customers
should be advised to change the password once the SSR task is complete.
If you face issues with logging in with username: essserv1 and password: <serial number of server>A or
<serial number of server>B (depending on Canister), perform the following steps:
Log in as a root user:
• username: root
• password: ibmesscluster
Note: You should only login as root when you cannot login as essserv1 and it is an emergency. The root
password is set to expire so you will be prompted to change immediately. Work with the customer to
change the root password again after the installation is complete.
Run the essutils tool manually by typing essutils and pressing the Enter key.
