BLIH? i,(x) The BLIH set of commands sets the upper limits of
the bin of the HM8118 to x % in the range of 0 to 7.
The upper limit of a bin must be set fi rst before the
lower limit may be set (see the BLIL command),
and the lower limit must be lower than the upper
limit. If no lower limit was set, the HM 8118 uses
the negative value of the upper limit as the lower
limit (the limits of the bin will then be symmetrical
to the nominal value).
BLIH? requests the upper limit of bin i.
BLIL(?), i, (x) The BLIL set of commands sets the lower limits of
the HM 8118 bin to x % in the range of 0 to 7. The
upper limit must be set fi rst before the lower limit
may be set (see the BLIH command). The lower
limit must be lower than the upper limit. If no lower
limit was set the HM8118 uses the negative value
of the upper limit for the lower limit (the limits of
the bin will then be symmetrical to the nominal
value).
BLIL? requests the lower limit of bin i.
BNOM(?) i
The BNOM set of commands sets the nominal
value of bin i to the value x. i may vary be between
0 to 8 (bin 8 is the QDR bin for scrap). If no nominal
value was entered for a bin, the HM8118 will take
the nominal value of the next lower bin if it is not
equal to zero. Some bins may have the same no-
minal value, even if there were no specifi c entries
for each. The bin with the lowest number requires
a nominal value. Bin 0 must be assigned a value,
otherwise the binning will not function.
BNOM? requests the nominal value of bin i.

SETUP and CONTROL COMMANDS

*IDN?
The *IDN? common query returns the HM8118's
device confi guration. This string is in the format:
„HAMEG Instruments, HM8118 SSSSSVVV". Where
„SSSSS" is the fi ve digit serial number of the unit,
and „VVV=" is the 3 digit fi rmware revision number.
*OPC?
The general request *OPC (operation complete)
is used in order to know when a measurement is
completed. The HM 8118 will send a „1" when all
measurement values of a cycle are complete and
ready for fetching. With the command STRT a cycle
can be started.
*RCL i
The RCL command recalls stored measurement
parameters i and establishes them as actual set-
tings. Memory locations 0 to 9 may be selected. If
the stored parameters are incomplete or if there
was nothing stored this command will generate
an error message. The command *RCL 9 resets
erverything to the factory settings.
*RST
The *RST command resets all measurement pa-
rameters to the factory settings.
*SAV i
The SAV command stores the actual measurement
parameters in memory location i.
*WAI
The general command *WAI is a synchronization
command which stops the execution of any other
C o m m a n d r e f e r e n c e
command until all current measurements are
completed. E.g. the commands STRT, *WAI;XALL?
would start a measurement and prevent the execu-
tion of any other command until the measurement
is completed. The command XALL? will cause the
results to be transmitted.

*OPC ?
The *OPC (operation complete) common query is
used to synchronize command execution to the
HM8118's measurement process. The *OPC? que-
ry will return the value 1 when all measurements
in progress are complete. For example, the com-
mands STRT; *OPC? would start a measurement
and return a 1 when it was done. The controlling
program would then know that the answer was
ready to retrieved.
*RCL i
The *RCL command recalls stored setting num-
ber i, where i may range from 0 to 9. If the stored
setting is corrupt or has never been stored, an
execution error will be generated. *RCL 9 resets
everything to the factory settings.
*RST
The *RST common command resets the HM8118
to its factory settings.
*SAV i
The *SAV command saves the current instrument
settings as setting number i
*WAI
The *WAI common command is a synchronization
command that halts further command processing
until all measurements in progress are complete.
For example, the commands STRT; *WAI;XALL?
would start a measurement, halt further command
processing until the measurement was complete,
and then execute the XALL? command to return
the measurement result.
