156 Driving and parking
Bring the vehicle to a standstill by applying

the brake pedal.
On uphill or downhill gradients, turn the front
#
wheels so that the vehicle rolls towards the
curb if it starts moving.
Apply the electric parking brake.

Engage transmission position j in a station‐
#
ary vehicle with the brake pedal applied
(
page 145).

Switch off the engine and the ignition by
#
pressing button 1.
Release the service brake slowly.

Get out of the vehicle and lock it.

When you park the vehicle with the transfer
case in position LOW RANGE, the electric
parking brake (
page 161) is automatically

applied when engaging transmission position

When you park the vehicle, you can still
operate the side windows and the sliding
sunroof for approximately five minutes if the
driver's door is closed.

Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Inhaling
these exhaust gases is hazardous to health
and leads to poisoning.
Never leave the engine or, if present,

the auxiliary heating running in an
enclosed space without sufficient venti‐
lation.
& WARNING Risk of injury when opening
or closing a door with the garage door
opener
When you operate or program the door with
the integrated garage door opener, people in
the range of movement of the door may
become trapped or struck by the door.
