5. Turn the flywheel until the mark (A) on the camshaft
sprocket points up.

6. Hold the adjustment screw (A) with a hex key (B).

7. Loosen the locknut with a wrench (C).
8. Put a feeler gauge (D) with the correct thickness
between the adjustment screw and the valve. Refer

9. Turn the adjustment screw until there is resistance
when you move the feeler gauge.
10. Hold the adjustment screw with a hex key and
tighten the locknut with the wrench.
11. Use the feeler gauge to make sure that the valve
clearance is correct.
12. Install the valve cover. Refer to
install the valve cover on page 34 .
13. Install the spark plug. Refer to
the spark plug on page 25 .
14. Install the shaft. Refer to
shaft on page 7 .
6.14.8 To disassemble and assemble the cylinder
valves
1. Disassemble the engine. Refer to
the engine on page 38 .
2. Put a folded cloth in the cylinder bore while you
disassemble the cylinder valves.

3. Turn the 2 rocker arms (A) away from the valve
spring caps (B).

4. Press down the 2 valve spring caps and move them
to the side to disconnect the valves.
5. Remove the valve spring caps and the valve springs
(C).
6. Remove the folded cloth and the valves from the
cylinder bore.
7. Examine the cylinder valves for wear and damages.
To clean and examine the cylinder valves

8. Examine the valve springs, rocker arms and cylinder
guides for wear and damages. Make sure that all
parts are in the tolerance spans. Refer to
dimensions and wear tolerances of the engine parts
on page 42 .
9. Assemble in the opposite sequence.
CAUTION: Make sure that the correct
valves are put in the correct position. The
inlet valve is identified with "HI" and the
exhaust valve is identified with "HE".
6.14.9 To clean and examine the cylinder valves
1. Disassemble the cylinder valves. Refer to
disassemble and assemble the cylinder valves on
page 36 .
2. Clean the cylinder valves. Use a wire brush if it is
necessary.
3. Examine the valve heads for cracks. Use valve
compound to grind down small dents on the valve
heads.
4. Make sure that all parts of the cylinder valves are in
the tolerance intervals. Replace the cylinder valves if
they have too much wear. Replace the cylinder
block if the cylinder valve guides have too much
wear. Refer to
Standard dimensions and wear
tolerances of the engine parts on page 42 .
5. Grind the cylinder valves before you assemble them.
