    Fax/Modem device to receive Fax calls automatically when using a Telecom Distinctive Ring service. DUET SWITCH is TRANSPARENT in operation, which means that it will not affect the normal use of your telephone line in any way and will work with all other telephone devices that may be fitted to your line.

  • Page 4: Installation Procedure

    Connect your Fax Machine to the FAX NUMBER port of DUET SWITCH using the telephone line cord fitted to it. Connect the supplied 12V Power Adaptor to the 12V POWER PORT of DUET SWITCH. Set your FAX MACHINE (or Fax/Modem) to AUTO-ANSWER on the minimum number of rings possible.
  • Page 5 This new DISTINCTIVE RING pattern will be detected by DUET 1 at the completion of the first ring. DUET 1 will then connect the incoming Fax call to your Fax Machine or Fax/Modem (FAX Device), so that it can answer the incoming F a x call.
  • Page 6 This new DISTINCTIVE RING pattern will be detected by DUET 2 at the completion of the first ring. DUET 2 will then answer the incoming call, generate a conventional ring output to cause your Fax Machine or Fax/Modem (FAX Device) to answer, so that it will receive the incoming call.

    Four Micro Dip Switches are located on the underside of DUET SWITCH. Only Switches 1,2 & 4 are used with DUET 1. All Four switches are used with DUET 2. The position of each switch is important as they individually vary the operation of this unit.

  • Page 8: Calling Line Identification

    DUET SWITCH in its default configuration does NOT PASS this first full ring, as it analyses this ring as part of its Fax detection process.
  • Page 9 TELEPHONES to the telephone line when you pick up the receiver to initiate or answer a call. By doing so, DUET SWITCH will stop these telephones from ringing whenever you have an incoming Fax call. A small number of Telephones have recently introduced a new ‘Line In Use’...
  • Page 10 DEVICE from the telephone line and only connect your Fax Device to the telephone line when you are sending or receiving a Fax Transmission. By doing so, DUET SWITCH can ENSURE that your FAX DEVICE will NEVER INTERFERE with an incoming or outgoing telephone call.
  • Page 11 A very small number of Fax Devices may not ANSWER the Ring that is generated by DUET 2. Should this happen, you will notice that DUET 2 will ANSWER an Incoming Fax call after 1 ring, but your Fax Device will not connect to the Fax call.
