Introduction

This chapter provides information on maintaining your DAU. This chapter also helps
you identify and solve problems that may occur during initial installation of the DAU or
while using your DAU.

Static Precautions

An electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage disk drives, option boards, and other
components. You can provide some ESD protection by wearing an antistatic wrist strap
attached to chassis ground when handling system components.
Electronic devices can be easily damaged by static electricity. To prevent damage, keep
them in their protective packaging when they are not installed in your system.

Routine Maintenance

Maintenance is the key to obtaining trouble-free operation of your DAU. To keep your
DAU operating flawlessly proper care and maintenance checks must be performed
periodically. For proper care of the DAU, refer to the "Cleaning" subsection that
follows.
It is also recommended that you make backup copies of your valuable data stored in
hard disks of the DAU on a regular basis. Also, inspect all cabling and replace any
damaged cables connected to the DAU.

Cleaning

The DAU requires cleaning on a regular basis and especially if operating in a dusty
environment.

!
Before doing the procedures in this manual, make sure that your
DAU is powered off and unplug the AC power cords from the back of
the chassis. Failure to disconnect power from your DAU can result in
personal injury and equipment damage.
! CAUTION
Do Not use volatile solvents such as paint thinner and benzene to
clean your DAU. These chemicals can damage the surface and color
of the DAU external surfaces.
The interior of the DAU and all the power receptacles, cables, and
connectors on its rear panel must be kept dry. Do not moisten them
with any liquid.
