3-6 Adding and Removing Components

Depending on the drive fault, the drive may be still spinning
when you remove it. Follow the next steps exactly when
removing drives.

Pull the blue ejector on the carrier assembly toward you to release the
lock. A click is heard when the lock is released. Once the lock is released,
hold the handle and pull the carrier out of the bay far enough to disengage
the drive connector from the backplane. Wait 30 seconds until the drive
spins down.

Remove the drive carrier from the drive bay.
5. Remove the replacement drive carrier from its protective wrapper, and place
it on an antistatic surface. The hard disk drive has been already installed into
the carrier at the factory.
Observe static precautions. Use an antistatic wrist strap.
6. Affix a drive number label to the front of the hard disk drive. See Figure 1-7.
7. Record the drive model and serial numbers in the equipment log.
8. Install the drive carrier with drive into the drive bay as follows:

With the ejector of the disk module opened, engage the guides on the top
and bottom faces of the disk module with the guide grooves on the disk
enclosure and insert the disk module into the drive bay. See Figure 3-2.

Push the drive carrier into the drive bay until it docks with the Fibre
Channel backplane connector. Push on the carrier until the drive is
completely seated into the Fibre Channel backplane connector.
