5.
Maintenance instructions
The easy and smooth operation are ensured if the
maintenance is correct.

5. 1. Coupling ball diameter:

50 mm on towing vehicle

It should have correct dimensions, be undamaged, clean and
free of grease. If the coupling balls are coated with Dacromet
(dull silver corrosion protection) and painted, before the first
use, the coating must be removed completely with sand paper,
grain size 200-240, and then cleaned with thinner or spirit so
it cannot deposit on the friction linings.
The surface of the coupling ball must be „bare metal". A dama-
ged or unclean coupling ball increases wear of the friction
linings, a greased coupling ball reduces the stabilising effect
significantly. Spirit can be used, for example, for cleaning or
thinning.

5. 2. Ball hitch

The ball space in the area with friction linings must be clean
and free of grease inside. (Fig. 10)
If the friction linings are soiled, the surface can be cleaned
with sand paper, grain size 200-400.
After that clean the surface with benzine or spirit. Lubricate
slightly all movable bearing points and bolts. The regular
maintenance and care increases the service life, operation
and safety of your ZKAS.

5. 3. Replacement of friction linings

Worn friction linings can be replaced. For this we provide a
replacement kit with 2 friction linings for the replacement of
the front and the rear friction lining.
} Note:
Observe the detailed assembly instructions
in the replacement kit.

5. 4. Driving noises:

The friction between the linings and the coupling ball may
generate noises during operation, however, this has no effect
onto the operation of the ball hitch.
The noises may be caused by the following:
» Dacromet-coated, galvanised or painted
coupling ball of the towing vehicle
» soiled, rusty or damaged coupling ball
of the towing vehicle
» friction elements in the ZKAS are soiled as
described in point 1 - 2 or with other soil.
Remedy: see point 5.1 / 5.2
In addition, the noises may be generated by:
» Dry drawbar / towing bar in bushes of the overrun hitch
» Remedy: Grease the bushes using the lubricating nipple
and pull off the bellow to grease the exposed drawbar.
» Detachable coupling ball on the towing vehicle
Remedy: Grease detachable coupling balls
on the locking device (see operating instruction
for the tow bar)
} Note:
We hereby refer to the requirements of Section 13 of the
Vehicle Registration Law (FZV) with regard to the data in
the registration certificate concerning the permissible
trailer load (No. 0.1 and 0.2) as well as the permissible
drawbar load (No. 13).
