10. Assembly of Main Gear Oleo (refer to 32-10-00 Figure 402) (continued)
(d) Carefully insert piston tube assembly into the oleo housing, guiding the orifice tube into the
piston tube, until retainer ring can be installed in the annular slot at the lower end of the
housing. Install wiper strip, slide washer into position and secure assembly with retainer ring.
At the top of the housing, tighten cap bolt.
(e) Install upper and lower torque links. (Use same thickness spacer washers between the two
links removed, to maintain correct wheel alignment.)
(f) Lubricate gear assembly. (refer to 12-20-00 Chart 2.)
(g) Service oleo strut with fluid and air (refer to 12-10-00, Oleo Struts) and safety with
MS20995C40 wire between filler plug and cap bolt.
(h) Check gear alignment and gear operation.
11. Inspection of Main Gear Oleo
(a) Inspect the landing gear oleo assembly component for the following:
(1.) Bearings and bushings for excess wear, corrosion, scratches, and overall damage.
(2.) Retaining pins for wear and damage.
(3.) Lock rings for cracks, burrs, etc.
(4.) Cylinder, cylinder steel insert, and orifice tube for corrosion, scratches, nicks, and excess
wear.
(5.) Orifice plate for hole restriction.
(6.) Fork tube for corrosion, scratches, nicks, dents, and misalignment.
(7.) Air valve for general condition.
12. Cleaning of Main Gear Oleo
Clean all parts with a suitable dry type cleaning solvent.
13. Repair of Main Gear Oleo
(a) Repair of the oleo is limited to smoothing out minor scratches, nicks and dents and
replacement of parts.
(b) Individual replacement of wiper strips is possible.
14. Removal of Main Gear Door Assembly
(a) To remove the outboard gear door, disconnect the retraction rods from the door and remove the
hinge bolts.
(b) To remove the inboard gear door, place the airplane on jacks, retract the gear enough to allow
the door to open, disconnect the actuating cylinder rod, and remove hinge bolts.
