Read this information and become familiar with the features of your Karma
operating. Carefully read and understand the instructions and warnings included in the
quick start guide, the user manual, any included instructional information, and online at
gopro.com/help.
The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol within an equilateral triangle
alerts the user to the presence of uninsulated, dangerous voltage within
the system enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute
a risk of electric shock.
The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle alerts the user to
the presence of important operating and maintenance instructions in
this guide.
WARNING! Failure to operate your Karma in accordance with all
instructions and safety regulations could result in injury to yourself
or others or damage to your Karma or other property.
WARNING! Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly
approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the
user's authority to operate the equipment.
Karma is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. Minors should not operate
this product without supervision by an adult familiar with all operating instructions. This
product is not a toy.
It is solely your responsibility to comply with all local laws, regulations and restrictions.
Depending on where you plan to operate your Karma, there may be registration
requirements or restrictions on use, including restrictions on where you can fly your Karma.
Do not fly under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other substance that may affect
your ability to operate your Karma in a safe and responsible manner. Do not use your
Karma for unauthorized surveillance, surreptitious use, or in any manner that violates
personal privacy laws. Such use is often strictly forbidden and can subject the operator
to serious liability and criminal prosecution.
Always update the software of your Karma to the latest version prior to
flying. Never modify the software of any GoPro product unless it is in
™ Drone before
accordance with GoPro's instructions.
Your Karma uses wireless frequencies that are commonly used by many other electronic
devices and may interfere with other devices, including pacemakers, defibrillators and
other medical devices, or consumer products such as cell phones, cameras, microwaves,
routers, and wireless handsets. Turn off your camera's Wi-Fi connection when operating
your Karma to minimize the chance of interference. Flying your Karma in areas with high
levels of electromagnetic or radio interference may adversely affect the performance
of your Karma, including momentary loss of control of the vehicle. Do not fly near
broadcasting stations or emissions towers.
Choose a suitable outdoor area for flight. Do not fly indoors. Take off and land in areas
clear of any obstacles, animals, or people, and remain at least 10 feet away from your
Karma while taking off and landing. Always ensure that you have a stable, dry, flat, and
unobstructed area to take off and land your Karma. Do not attempt to land your Karma on
water. Inspect your Karma before takeoff to ensure it is not damaged and is assembled
according to GoPro's instructions. The Karma folding arms and landing gear should be
fully deployed and propellers installed and tightened correctly with no cracks or damage.
The Karma landing gear contains electronics and must stay fully deployed at all times to
ensure safe operation.
Check weather conditions prior to using your Karma. Do not use your Karma in heavy
winds or harsh weather conditions such as fog, snow, rain, hail, lightning, tornadoes, dust,
sandstorms, or hurricanes. Land immediately if you sense a loss of control due to drifting
during flight caused by wind conditions.
Karma is not waterproof and should be operated under dry conditions. Water and moisture
will damage your Karma and the enclosed battery which could cause an explosion or
fire. Do not turn on your Karma if it is wet. If your Karma is already on, turn it off and if
the battery on a component can be removed, remove it immediately. Allow your Karma
and any part of your Karma to dry thoroughly before using it again. ANY DAMAGE OR
MALFUNCTION CAUSED BY WATER IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
To avoid collisions in the air or on the ground, keep your Karma within visual line of sight
at all times during flight. Do not fly over unprotected people, sensitive infrastructure, or
moving vehicles. While flying, maintain a safe distance between your Karma and power
lines, trees, airports, buildings, and any other potentially dangerous or hazardous objects
or areas.
Do not attempt to touch or catch your Karma during flight. The propellers on your
Karma have sharp edges and if touched while spinning could cause significant injury.
Always fly your Karma with a fully charged battery and with a fully charged Karma
Controller.
Battery, Charger, and Battery Care
To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose your Karma to rain
or moisture. As with any electronic products, use care not to spill liquids into
any part of the system. Liquids can cause failure and/or a fire hazard.
WARNING: Handle and store batteries properly to avoid injury or
damage. Most battery issues arise from improper handling of batteries and,
particularly, from the continued use of damaged batteries.
Instructions for removing the battery from your Karma are available in the Karma user
manual. Do not attempt to remove the battery on your Karma Controller as it could lead to
injury or exposure to shock.
Do not drop, disassemble, open, crush, bend, deform, puncture, shred, microwave,
incinerate, or paint your Karma battery or Karma Controller. Do not insert foreign objects
into the battery bay on your Karma.
Do not use your Karma or any GoPro product containing a battery if the product has been
damaged—for example, if cracked, punctured, or in contact with liquids. Disassembling,
damaging, or puncturing the battery can cause an explosion or fire.
Battery fluid can cause serious burns to the skin and eyes. In the unlikely event that
battery fluid leaks onto your skin, wash the affected area with plenty of water and seek
medical advice immediately.
Do not expose your Karma or battery to excessive heat, including direct sunlight or fire,
and storage or use inside cars in hot weather, where it can be exposed to temperatures
in excess of 140°F (60°C). Doing so may cause the battery to generate heat, rupture, or
ignite. Using your Karma battery in this manner also may result in a loss of performance
and a shortened life expectancy.
If the battery is damaged and ignites, do not use water to extinguish flames. Instead, use
a functioning fire extinguisher. Do not short-circuit batteries. Avoid storing them around
metal objects such as keys, pocket change, paper clips, and jewelry.
The battery charger must be used indoors only. It is neither designed nor tested for
use outdoors, in recreation vehicles, or on boats. Make no modifications to the battery
charger. Unauthorized alterations may compromise safety, regulatory compliance, and
battery charger performance, and may void the warranty. Do not drop the battery charger
or batteries.
The battery is intended to be charged only with the battery charger provided with your
Karma. Refer to the charging instructions in the Karma user manual. Do not continue
charging the battery if it does not reach full charge within two hours. Overcharging may
cause the battery to become hot, rupture, or ignite. If you see any heat deformation or
leakage, properly dispose of the battery.
Do not charge or connect a battery if the power cable has been pinched or shorted.
Always inspect the battery and charger before charging. Do not pierce, crush, dent, or
deform the battery or charger in any way. If either becomes deformed, properly dispose
of it.
Do not dry GoPro products that contain batteries with an external heat source such as a
conventional oven, microwave oven, or hair dryer.
Do not attempt to use the Karma battery to power other electronics. Doing so may result
in permanent damage to your product and/or personal injury.
