CHAPTER 7. ELECTRICAL
7-1 IGNITION SYSTEM
Current
for
the
ignition
system
is provided by
the
magneto
assembly.
The mag neto
assembly consists
of the
mag-
neti zed
r
otating
f
lywheel
and the
primary
source
coi
ls
(attached
is
the magneto backing
plate). Th
e
action
of
the
rota
ting
flywheel generates a
low voltage primary
current in
the
pri
mary
source coils.
This
current is t imed,
by
the
opening
and
closing
of
the
ig
nition
poi nts,

at the

The
secondary
coils convert
the
primary
voltage into
high
voltage current and
deliver
it
through
the
high
tension
leads
to the spark
plugs.

LIGHTING SYSTEM
Lighting current is generated in a similar manner by the
lighting coil located on the point plate. The lighting system
is of a
balanced output type design for the headlight and
taillight. Overloading of the lighting system by adding on
lighting equipment is not recommended.
Because the
I ighting system is
of
a balanced output type, burning out of
either
the headlight or taillight
can
result in a heavy surge
of electricity
being forced to the remaining light bulb. The
remaining bulb
can
also burn out because of this surge.
