2-3 REMOVAL OF PRIMARY SHEAVE
2-3-1
The primary
sheave cap
assembly
is
attached to the
crankshaft
on the
left
side of
the engine
.
Removal of the
primary sheave bolt
al lows the primary
sheave
cap assembly
t
o
slide off th
e
end of the
cranksh aft. There
is
a

bent
down.

primary spring
can
be
removed.

As
shown
in Fig.
2-34, the
primary sheave cap is provided
with a weight. As the engine speed increases, the weight
is
pulled
by
centrifugal force in the direction of the
circumference. Then th is movement is
converted
into the
force which
turns
in the
direction of the axle, and pushes
the sliding
sheave.
The drive belt is driven as a result of
being held
tight
between the sliding sheave and fixed
sheave.
As
the
engine speed slows
down,
centrifugal
force by the
weight
weakens,
and
the
sliding sheave
returns to its
original position by the tension of the spring built in the
primary sheave ass'y.
